Description

Organic Calabrian Diavolicchio Chili Pepper

The organic Diavolicchio Calabrese chili pepper is a variety of Capsicum annuum. Native to Calabria, it is among the most intense and popular species in Italy. There are several varieties, each with a different level of spiciness, but the Diavolicchio Calabrese generally ranks medium on the Scoville scale, with a score of 40.000 SHU. Its plant is very productive: it produces numerous small fruits—oval in shape and 3-5 cm long—that grow in beautiful bunches.

How can I grow it?

The organic Diavolicchio Calabrese is a very fruitful cultivar, making it ideal for growing in the ground when temperatures are stable above 15°C (59°F). It will also do well in a pot indoors, as long as it receives the right amount of sunlight and water.
Start by germinating the seeds: place them well-spaced in a container on moistened paper towels and wait for them to sprout; the Diavolicchio Calabrese has a tougher seed coat than other peppers, so this stage may take a little longer.
After that, gently move the sprouts into well-drained soil and water them little and often, taking care not to create water stagnation.
After about three months, your organic chili peppers will turn a bright red color, and you can harvest them and enjoy them in a variety of ways.

How can I eat it?

With its unmistakable aroma and immediate spiciness, the organic Diavolicchio Calabrese chili pepper is also perfect for direct consumption: use it to flavor your first and second courses, or pickled in oil.

It is recommended to wear gloves when handling chili peppers to avoid skin irritation.
Store the seeds in a cool, ventilated place, with a temperature between 8° and 20° C, protected from atmospheric agents, changes in humidity, and sunlight.
